Fausto Colato experience
Arriva il Natale e ogni anno si ripresenta lo stesso problema: cosa regalare al nostro lui, a papà ecc… Effettivamente fare un regalo a un uomo non è così semplice, la scelta rispetto ai gift per la donna è molto limitata si rischia di regalare sempre le stesse cose e poi oggi si ha veramente tutto… Ma io quest’anno ho già scovato cosa regalargli … e, nel frattempo, vi mostro cosa ho fatto io ed il Top Team…
Siamo state invitate da Fausto Colato a provare un’esperienza diretta nel suo laboratorio. Ebbene si, siamo andate a vedere (e fare) le nostre cinture… Pensate che per fare una cintura occorrono 28 passaggi… E’ stato veramente divertente. Prima siamo andate nella stanza dove viene posto tutto il pellame, ci siamo scelte il nostro preferito e da li… via alle varie lavorazioni. Alcune le ho fatte io di persona, che emozione! Altre invece sono state fatte dalle mani esperte di chi lavora da Colato anche perché alcuni macchinari devono essere gestiti con cautela. Ecco le fasi lavorative:
1) Scelta della pelle
– 2) Decisione altezza cintura
– 3) Taglio pelle con fustelle e trancia
– 4) Messa in taglia e accoppiamento disegno squame
– 5) Scarnitura per effettuare le giunte
– 6) Incollaggio pezzi pelle
– 7) Taglio groppone per la fodera
– 8) Egualizzare iguana
– 9) Agatare (lucidare)
– 10) Incollaggio sopra (iguana) e sotto (fodera)
– 11) Spaccare
– 12) Fare punte
– 13) Scarnire per bombare
– 14) Rincollare le parti
– 15) Calandrare (passare sotto il rullo per schiacciare)
– 16) Rifilare i bordi
– 17) Rifare la punta
– 18) Fresare la punta
– 19) Tingere i bordi
– 20) Fare i buchi davanti (punta) e dietro (fibbia)
– 21) Scarnire la parte posteriore per alloggiamento fibbia
– 22) Fresare le coste
– 23) Timbratura del pellame + articolo + taglia
– 24) Montare fibbia
Pensate quanto tempo ci vuole per fare una sola cintura… Poi certo dobbiamo sempre considerare che Fausto Colato ha un artigianalità unica, tutto fatto a mano…come potete vedere dalle foto…

We’ve been invited by Fausto Colato for a hands-on experience in his laboratory. That’s right, we made our own belts…
Probably you don’t know this but it takes 24 steps to make one single belt…it was fun! First of all, we went in the room where all the leather is stored to pick our favorite and then…we started working on it! How exciting to make something with my own hands! Even if some steps must be carried through by the capable hands of the artisans working at Colato because they require machinery that should be handled with caution.
1) Leather selection
2) Measuring height of belt
3) Cut leather with die board and razor
4) Assembling and combining scales pattern
5) Fleshing to add inserts
6) Gluing leather
7) Cutting lining leather
8) Equalizing iguana leather
9) Polishing
10) Gluing upper side (iguana) and bottom (lining)
11) Breaking
12) Making tips
13) Fleshing to bend leather
14) Gluing pieces together
15) Calendering (pressing under rollers at high pressure)
16) Trimming edges
17) Trimming tip
18) Milling tip
19) Dying edges
20) Make holes on the front (tip) and back side (buckle)
21) Fleshing the back to place buckle
22) Milling bumps
23) Stamping leather + item + size
24) Placing buckle
Well, now you know how much time it takes to make one single belt…well, I must say that Fausto Colato is one-of-a-kind when it comes to craftsmanship, everything is handmade as you can see in the pictures…
